Students also attend Riverglen Junior High, about three-quarters of a mile away, and Capital Senior High, just over two miles from Pierce Park. The neighborhood was named for a park that existed in the early 20th-century, complete with roller coasters, an artificial lake, summer theater, and golf links, providing an interesting slice of history. After it was purchased by the Plantation Company, it was replaced by the Plantation Golf Club, which is located on the site today, now known as the River Club.
